NEW HAVEN POLICE AND SCSU STUDENTS COLLABORATE FOR DAY OF SERVICE
(9/7/2007) NEW HAVEN- Tomorrow, from 10:00am-2:00pm nearly 500 freshman students from Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) will collaborate with the New Haven police Department for a Community Day of Service. Police and students will meet at SCSU and travel to the City’s ten districts escorted by each District Manager and community police officers. Buses for this event were donated by the department’s community business partner, First Student. Students will perform community beautification tasks such as: clean up, painting and landscaping at sites selected by district management teams and the Police Department. The day will end at SCSU with a cook out at 2:30pm.
The locations are as follows:
District # 1 - Downtown New Haven: Wooster St. and the parks in the surrounding area
District #2 – Westville: Springside Ave
District #3 - Hill South: Salem St. between Cromwell and Putnum; Hurlburt St. and Rosset St. and Frank St. and West St.
District #4 - Dwight/Chapel: Kensington Square Properties; Kensington Street Park and
Day Street Park
District #5 - Hill North: Stevens St.
District #6 – Dixwell: 725 Orchard St. between Goffe St. and Henry St.; 28 Henry St. between Dixwell Ave and Ashmun St. and 26 Charles St. and rear lot of Dixwell Plaza
District #7 – Newhallville: Winchester Ave. Science Park
District #8 - Fair Haven: Ferry St. from Lumbar to Pine
District #9 - East Shore: Woodward Ave. and Farren St.
District #10 - Beaver Hill: Whalley Ave. from lower Blake to Sherman and Whalley Ave. from Blvd. to Fitch St.
